Since 1904, Cressman’s at Pine Ridge has been a beloved Sierra landmark. On September 11th, 2020, Mr. Ty Gillett was escorted by first responders to assess the loss of his store.
One of the Officers brought a small flag and with Ty’s permission raised it in remembrance of 9/11. The impromptu ceremony was a simple tribute to lives lost on that fateful day. And a remembrance to our first responders and military.
Ty demonstrated how one can be in the midst of their own loss, yet still show love and respect for our Nation.
As time passed, many friends and visitors would return to the mountain passing by that small American flag. It stood watch and was a gentle reminder that we are one nation under God. Indivisible.
The flag flew for almost a year. A local craftsman fabricated a temporary pole to hold the new flag.
Temporary, because the Cressman’s Flag Fund is building a lasting monument. We have two goals: Construction of an eighty-foot flagpole with a dignified 9/11 monument and purchase a supply of American flags to last for generations.
Local businesses are covering the foundation, electrical, and building costs. But the flag will need to be replaced every three months, that’s where your support is needed. We need you to carry the flag.
A Cressman’s red, white and blue sticker will be provided for each fifty-dollar donation to purchase flags. A small thank you for supporting our tribute to the land of the free and the home of the brave.
